About this Course: Preparing for an Immigration Psychological Evaluation

Course Syllabus
Have you received calls from clients or attorneys asking if you do immigration psychological evaluations, but don’t know where to start? This course will walk you through the immigration process and will prepare you for doing a comprehensive psychological evaluation.
Educational Goals: To prepare licensed therapists to do comprehensive immigration psychological evaluations for a variety of client needs, to consider legal and ethical issues, to create a standard for the field, and address practical problems that may arise during an evaluation and report. It is also a good refresher for those who have already been doing evaluations and are looking to create a standard for the profession or think through some of their current systems.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to describe 3 types of immigration processes from application to decision-making.
Participants will be able to learn 20 steps for a thorough psychological evaluation as well as how to testify to your evaluation report.
Participants will be able to identify _17_ legal and ethical issues related to attorneys, clinicians, and applicants.
Practical applications will be given to providers to standardize evaluation processes, address diversity, and manage clinical practice.

Your Instructor
Dr. Cio Hernández, is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Marriage Family Therapist in California and Hawaii. In her clinical practice, she specializes in psychological evaluations for immigration, childhood development, adolescent sexual assault, family violence prevention, and offers EMDR Therapy to replace haunting memories with a new outlook on life. Member of the Institutional Review Board for the Kaiser Foundation Research Institute. Teacher of Law and Ethics, Health Equity, and other mental health courses. Founder of the Marin Latino Health Policy Partnership.Public Information Officer on the Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services Emergency Management Team. After serving nine years for the Marin First 5 Commission, she joined the Contra Costa First 5 Commission. Her advocacy, strong relationship building skills, and bilingual ability are relied upon by communities throughout the Bay Area. Dr. Hernandez received her doctorate from UC Davis in Health Care leadership, where she designed an App to reduce test taking anxiety. Most importantly, she is a mom of a 19-year-old son who is attending at Seattle University.
